Atwood Machine

The Atwood Machine was invented by a Britain nationality scientist, George Atwood, which at first  was used to study motion concept and to measure acceleration of earth gravity g. This tool consist of two loads of the same mass and they are connected by small mass thread. The thread is passed through a low friction pulley which is also has small mass.
If one load is given a ballast, then the it will go downward, its motion, which at first move slowly, will accelerate, so, this tool is also able to used to study the Law of Newton II about motion.

By making various ballast sizes which is unbalanced, loads will move and accelerate. One load moves upward, whilst the other with its ballast moves downward. Acceleration resultant is measured and obtained from experiment datas and the result is compared to a calculation using Newton II theory about motion.

Photo gates and Timer Counter AT-01 can automatically measure the time values on an experiment using Atwood Machine, therefore measurement result will be obtained accurately and fast.
