Workshop of Science Laboratory Management, Basic Level

On March 17, 2016, Pudak Scientific had held Workshop of Science Laboratory Management, Basic Level at Pudak Training Center, Gedebage, Bandung. This workshop was attended by participants from DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, North Sumatra, and Bangka Belitung.

The workshop begun by presentation by Dr. Yunita, M.Pd., a lecturer of Chemistry Education Department of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. She is very experienced is laboratory management. She had visited various regions in Indonesia to give workshops or laboratory review for the purpose of providing a better learning environment in science laboratory. In her presentation, she emphasized about the importance of laboratory in school’s learning process. For a meaningful learning, students should not only receive lecture but also practice. Thus, laboratory is very important. 

After lunch break, participant was invited to visit Pudak Scientific’s factory. Workshop was continued by having some experiment that included:

• Solution making
• Observation of leaf’s stomata
• Insect’s respiration
• Measurement by calipers and screw micrometer
• Power supply test

Participants were satisfied after following this workshop; some of them were immediately registering to attend Workshop of Science Laboratory Management, Advance Level on March 19, 2016. To attend the advance level of this laboratory management workshop, participants must previously attent the Workshop of Science Laboratory Management, Basic Level.  

Through this workshop, we wished participant will be able to better manage the science laboratory in their school, thus laboratory function in learning process will be optimized.

 

Workshop of Science Laboratory Management, Advance Level

On March 19, 2016, Pudak Scientific held the Workshop of Science Laboratory Management, Advance Level. The workshop that was attended by 15 teachers from Sumatra and Java was conducted at Pudak Training Center (PTC), Gedebage, Bandung.

The main speaker for this workshop was Dr. galuh Yuliani, M.Si., a lecturer of Chemistry Education Department of UPI, Bandung. In her presentation, she emphasized about works safety in laboratory that often neglected by teachers as the leader of experiment activities conducted in school. When conducting experiments, all experiment participants should understand the danger and measurements during emergency, thus experiments carried out in school laboratory will be safe.

During simulation session, participants were simulating various activities associated to laboratory safety. Through this simulation participants had hands-on experience regarding laboratory management. The simulations included:

• Simulation of laboratory management,
• Simulation of tools and ingredients storage
• Simulation of waste disposal,
• Simulation of earthquake and fire handling in laboratory. 

Workshop was continued by experiments session. In this session participants conducted some experiments that included:

• Calibration of 311 balance,
• Ticker time usage and storage,
• Basic surgery technique,
• Blood type test.

 Workshop ended at 5.30 p.m. Participants were satisfied with this workshop. One participant said that this workshop was very useful for them. We wished that by attending this workshop, teachers and laboratory assistants may be able to optimize laboratory usage in their school in order to improve Indonesian education quality. This is in accordance with our objective, which is to actively involve in improving Indonesian education.
