Chemistry, unwittingly, is very useful in daily life. Almost all aspects in our life are related to chemistry. We often heard about a certain food that contains hazardous chemical, there are even proves provided by having simple chemistry experiment showed in videos through various mass media. However, the concept conveyed is incorrect. Therefore, teachers and parent are required to explain the correct concept by guiding students in school and children at home. This is the reason why Pudak Scientific held the “Workshop of Chemistry in Daily Life” on July 15, 2017.

The workshop begin with a lecturer by Drs. Ali Kusrijadi, M.Si., a lecturer of Chemistry Education Department of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. He emphasized the importance of further research on any information received about daily life, particularly the ones related to chemistry concepts. Common people easily believe the wrong concept presented in mass media. This, understanding of chemistry concepts is very important. 

After the main session, participants were allowed to rest and have lunch, after previously having photo session with all participants. Workshop activity was continued with experiment activities, that followed enthusiastically by all participants.  The experiments include

• water test
• food test
•  making fruit battery

The experiments were conducted in inquiry method, hence participants were asked to find their own experiment method and the sample to be used in tests that will be conducted. Finally, participants that come from various region in Indonesia were instructed to take their own conclusions based on data received, and discussed it. One participant said, “The experiment was fun. We can understand that there are many hoax about food and drink tests in social media.”

 Pudak Scientific team designed the experiment session in inquiry method for the purpose that participants may be able to independently find out which food and drink is good and what is the effect to health. The workshop conducted at Pudak Training Center in Gedebage, Bandung was ended at 5 p.m., in accordance with the schedule.

Last but not least, we wished that this workshop will continuously support Indonesian education towards the better path, in accordance with our mission, which is to actively involve in improving Indonesian education.
