Workshop of School’s Science Laboratory Safety and Waste Management, June 3, 2017

In the beginning of Ramadan month of 1438 H, on June 3, 2017, Pudak Scientific, the biggest educational aids producer in Indonesia, held a workshop about laboratory safety and waste management.  Safety in laboratory should be a priority because working in laboratory is high risk, however, most laboratory school users rule out this aspect. Other aspect commonly ruled out in laboratory activity is the waste management, even though laboratory waste will directly affect environment. Considering this situation, Pudak Scientific held “Workshop of School’s Science Laboratory Safety & Waste Management” on June 3, 2017 at Pudak Training Center in Gedebage, Bandung.

Workshop began with a lecture by the main speaker, Drs. Ali Kusrijadi, M.Si., lecturer of Chemistry Education Departmen of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. He emphasized about the importance of safety during working in a laboratory, as well as the proper and effective waste management for   school’s science laboratory in order not to contaminate environment.

To make the material conveyed more meaningful and understandable, workshop was continued by doing simulations of laboratory safety and waste management. The simulations included:
  • simulation of identification, sorting, and disposing the waste
  • simulation of laboratory safety standard
  • simulation of how to handle accident and disaster in laboratory
This workshop attended by participants from various region in West Java ended at 4 p.m. western Indonesian time. During Ramadhan month, the schedule of Pudak Scientific workshop held regularly at Pudak Training Center is adjusted, begins at 8 a.m. western Indonesian time and ended at 4 p.m. western Indonesian time. This adjustment is to accommodate Muslim participants who are fasting during Ramadhan to be able to have iftar on time.

We wish this workshop will be useful and meaningful for all participants, particularly for waste management and safety standard in their school laboratory.
