Teaching aids are made to support learning process to be more interesting and meaningful that the material conveyed in class will be more understandable to students. However, not all teachers in Indonesia use teaching aids in their learning process in class, that make learning result is not optimum. Based on this problem, Pudak Scientific held the “Workshop of Science and Mathematics Teaching Aids Development” which is expected to help improving teachers in solving that problem.
This workshop for elementary and junior high school teachers was held on May20, 2017 and was attended by ten participants from West Java, Bali, and East Java. The main speaker for this workshop was Mr. Muhammad Gina Nugraha, M.Pd., M.Si., a lecturer of Physics Education Department of UPI and has been actively involved in various activities regarding learning medium development for teachers throughout Indonesia. In this workshop, he conveyed various solutions for learning medium development problems usually faced by teachers in school. Moreover, he also gave some simple demonstration to explain difficult concepts to be explained in class.
After the first session, the activity was continued by visiting Pudak Scientific factory to see production process of various educational aids products of Pudak Scientific. After that industrial visit, Mr. Tedi Trikoni, S.Si, from Pudak Scientific gave a material about mathematics teaching aids development while introducing various mathematics teaching aids of Pudak Scientific. It is expected that after this introduction of Pudak Scientific products, participants will be inspired to develop their simple teaching aids that can be made by them to be used in class.
Next activity was science experiments, which was enthusiastically followed by participants. The experiments used common daily tools. The experiments included:
- bottle balancing,
- making hologram,
- making mosquitoes repellant spray,
- changing tea into water,
- time tunnel game.
Last but not least, we wished that our workshops could help teachers to improve their competence to provide a better and meaningful learning in school for a better future for the next generation.
