Introduction and Workshop of Social Science Laboratory Management

In 2016, Pudak Scientific’s workshops for social science have new features and themes. One of the themes that have great beneficial for social science teachers to improve their competence and quality is the Introduction and Workshop of Social Science Laboratory Management.

Pudak Scientific has scheduled four workshops of the Introduction and Workshop of Social Science Laboratory Management in 2016. The first workshop was on March 5, 2016 at the Social Science Laboratory, Pudak Training Center, Gedebage, Bandung. This workshop was attended by participants from West Java, DKI Jakarta, and Banten.

The speaker for this workshop was Drs. Asep Mulyadi, M. Pd. He is a lecturer in the Department of Geography Education of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and very experienced in social science laboratory development and learning medium development. In his presentation, he emphasized about the importance of social science laboratory in school. Social science laboratory in school will make learning more meaningful and interesting for students.

After lunch break, workshop was continued with the session presented by Pudak Scientific’s social science team. In this session Pudak Scientific’s team conveyed about the usage and maintenance of educational aids commonly used in social science laboratory. They also introduced about the ideal science laboratory design and the points should be considered when carrying out the procurement for social science laboratory.

One participant said that this workshop was very useful and fun to be followed. Even though his school had not had a social science laboratory, but this workshop will be useful to design and develop social science laboratory in the future.

Through this workshop, we hope that we could continuously to actively involve in improving education in Indonesia, as well as facilitating competence improvement of social science teachers in all over Indonesia.

Workshop of Microscope Usage, Care, and Maintenance

As our attempt to improve Indonesian teachers’ competences, Pudak Sceintific had again organized workshop for teachers, laboratory assistants, and laboratory technicians. This workshop called “Workshop of Microscope Usage, Care, and Maintenance” that particularly discussed about microscope. Therefore, participants were expected to be able to optimize microscope usage in their school.

After event opening by Pudak Scientific’s team, workshop was begun by presentation by Mr. Amprasto, M.Si. His presentation emphasized that microscope is a very important part for biology learning in school.

In this workshop about microscope, participants were encouraged to disassembled and reassembled parts of a defective microscope, up to its smallest parts. The purpose of this activity was to provide a hands-on experience in doing microscope maintenance and simple repair.

Moreover, participants also had some experiments that included:

• Observation of the life in a drop of water,
• Observation of leaf’s stomata,
• Observation of yoghurt bacteria by simple coloring and negative coloring,
• Observation of yeast cell.

The workshop conducted in Science Lab. of Pudak Training Center, Gedebage, Bandung ended at 5 p.m. participants were satisfied after following this workshop and knowing about how to do maintenance and simple repair for microscope.
